Dr. Charles Love is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at The Ohio State University Medical Center. He has been practicing medicine at OSU for over 20 years. He is also director of Cardiac Rhythm Device Services and Associate Investigator at the Dorothy M. Davis Heart & Lung Research Institute, also with The Ohio State University. Known around the world as an expert and leader in techniques of pacemaker implantation and especially in the area of lead extraction, Dr. Love is an internationally sought speaker on pacemaker technology. He has made hundreds of presentations in venues ranging from the World Congress on Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology in Hong Kong to the Advanced Didactic Course on Cardiac Pacing in France and the Japanese Heart Rhythm Society in Tokyo. He has been published a number of times in peer-reviewed journals such as Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology. He is a member of several professional societies including the American College of Cardiology, The Heart Rhythm Society, and the American Heart Association. Dr. Love is the current president of the Board of Directors of IBHRE. He has been a member of the board since 1992.

Dr. Edward V. Platia is the director of the Cardiac Arrhythmia Center at the Washington Hospital Center. He is also a professor of medicine at Georgetown University and George Washington University School of Medicine. His research interests have focused on cardiac arrhythmias. He has been principal investigator of a number of major grants, including the American Heart Association and National Institutes of Health. He has served on the editorial board of several cardiology journals, and continues to be a reviewer for Circulation, American Journal of Cardiology, Annals of Internal Medicine, and PACE. Dr. Platia has been a member of the IBHRE Board of Directors since 2002.

Ms. Christine Chiu-Man works as the Electrophysiology Pacemaker technologist at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. Her other areas of interest include epidemiology, patient safety and human factors research. She is an associate editor for the HeartRhythm journal since 2004 and a HRS Fellow in 2008. Ms. Chiu-Man has served on the IBHRE Electrophysiology Test Writing Committee since 1998 and on the Board of Directors since 2000.

Ms. Melanie Gura is the Director of Pacemaker and Arrhythmia Services for Northeast Ohio Cardiovascular Specialists in Akron, Ohio. Recognized as a leading expert in the arrhythmia field, Ms. Gura is widely published and known as a prominent international lecturer. Ms. Gura has served on numerous committees for the Heart Rhythm Society and the American College of Cardiology. Currently, she serves as a member of the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners’ Pacing Test Writing Committee. In 2002, Ms. Gura was the recipient of the Heart Rhythm Society’s Distinguished Service Award.

Ms. Marleen Irwin is currently practicing as a consultant specialist and director of CardioSys Knowledge Transfer Group Ltd. Her most recent position was clinical research and support specialist of the Cardiac Sciences and Cardiac Pacing Program at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital & Health Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. In 2005, Ms. Irwin received the HRS Distinguished Service Award, and in 2006 received an HRS Fellowship. Ms. Irwin has served on the IBHRE Board of Directors since 2006.

Dr. Chu-Pak Lau is a specialist in internal medicine, cardiology, and in critical care medicine. He has special interest in atrial fibrillation, pacing and heart failure. Dr. Lau has taught at many universities throughout China, and is currently the David Mong MW Chair of Cardiology in the Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, University of Hong Kong, Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong - China. He has been a member of the IBHRE Board of Directors since 2006.

Tohru Ohe, MD, FACC, FHRS

Dr. Tohru Ohe completed his medical and cardiology training in Baltimore, Maryland and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Ohe is a professor of medicine with the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine of Okayama University in Okayama – Japan. Dr. Ohe holds numerous medical society memberships, including that of the Japanese Heart Rhythm Society since 1985. He recently joined the IBHRE Board of Directors in September of 2007.

Neil F. Strathmore, MBBS, FHRS, CCDS

Dr. Neil Strathmore is a cardiologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and several private hospitals. He trained at the University of Melbourne, Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. He has a general cardiology practice with a major component of pacemaker and ICD implantation and follow-up. He has specialized in the removal of implanted devices and leads and has a wide experience in this area. Dr. Strathmore has been involved with teaching for many years and is a Clinical Associate Professor of the University of Melbourne. Dr. Strathmore has sat on the IBHRE Test Writing Committee since 1992 and the IBHRE Board of Directors since 2005.

Bruce L. Wilkoff, MD, FHRS, CCDS

Dr. Bruce L. Wilkoff specializes in the treatment of heart rhythm disorders, implantation of defibrillators and the computerized analysis of cardiac pacemakers and electrophysiologic studies. Dr. Wilkoff is recognized as an international expert in the design of new technologies to improve the performance of pacemakers and defibrillators. He is involved in numerous clinical multi-center trials to study medical applications for pacemakers and defibrillators. He holds six U.S. patents including a special algorithm for defibrillator tachycardia detection and an efficient controller for pacemaker rate responsiveness. He is the 2011-2012 President of the Heart Rhythm Society.

Dr. Wilkoff completed his undergraduate work at Northwestern University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical engineering, and received a medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus. He completed his clinical training in internal medicine at Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals of Cleveland, followed by a fellowship in cardiology from University Hospitals and a fellowship in research from the Ohio State University Hospital and School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Wilkoff joined the Cleveland Clinic in 1987. He has served in IBHRE’s Pacing Test Writing Committee since 1988.
